A Look Back at POPPY SEASON

Starting from the last Friday in October to November 11th, we wear a poppy to remember our Armed Forces members who gave their lives defending Canada and its interests and also to respect current Armed Forces members for their duty, sacrifice and love for the nation. Cadets will have multiple opportunities to volunteer at different locations and to try to get as many poppies on people's chests as possible this Poppy Season.

How to Wear a Poppy

It is expected that you wear your poppy on the left side of your body, over your heart.

History Behind it

Wearing poppies in terms of remembrance was popularised by John McCrae, a teacher and doctor who served on the frontlines of World War One. Witnessing many of his fellow soldiers and friends die due to war inspired him to write a poem about it. This poem was called "In Flanders Fields" a poem which connects the life and death of war with the red poppies growing beside soldiers’ graves. Near the end of the war, his poem got out and became a popular piece of remembrance, leading to today where poppies play a powerful part in showing remembrance and respect for our Armed Forces members.

Wear a poppy, support our Veterans and Armed Forces members, and remember those lost, in the fight for freedom, democracy & Canada.

Lest we forget.
