NON-Cadet Tallship Training
The following programs offer youth the opportunity to experience sail training aboard tall ships. These opportunities are not part of the official Sea Cadet Program and are open to youth on an independent basis.

Cadet staff are not responsible for answering questions, processing applications, or organizing travel.

No cadet funds or insurance apply to these programs.

Participation must be arranged directly by the youth and their parent/guardian.
Brigs Youth Sail Training
Ages: 13–18
Vessels: TS Playfair or STV Pathfinder

Program Overview:

Live aboard a tall ship and learn traditional seamanship
-
No prior sailing experience required
-
Voyage options from 5 to 21 days
-
Includes sail handling, watch standing, navigation, and steering
-
All-inclusive pricing: food, accommodation, training, safety gear

Scholarships and bursaries available – early application recommended
How to Apply:

Paid Option: Apply directly through Brigs and pay the program fee.

Scholarship Option: Begin the registration process, indicate interest in a scholarship, and pause before making payment. Follow Brigs’ instructions from there.

While cadet staff may acknowledge a cadet has applied, all scholarship decisions are made solely by Brigs Youth Sail Training.

120 hours of commitment: sailing, workshops, reflection, and community service

Day sails on keelboats in Toronto

Multi-day voyages on partner tall ships (Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, Atlantic Coast)

Participants fully crew the vessel: sail handling, navigation, cooking, cleaning, and watches
